Our first solemn pause is at Assin Manso, a pivotal town on the harrowing enslaved African trade route. This stop allows us to connect with the heart-wrenching past of ancestors, who, after marching barefoot and shackled for hundreds of kilometers from Northern Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Niger, were rested and bathed at the Ndonkor Nsuo (Slave River) before continuing to the dungeons of Cape Coast and Elmina Castles.
Following this visit, we’ll return to get ready for tonight’s New Year’s festivities. After freshening up and enjoying a delightful evening meal at our hotel, we’ll head into town to celebrate and join the local bars and clubs for the New Year celebrations. – Ridge Royal Hotel

Happy New Year! An adventure-filled day awaits as we kickstart with breakfast at the hotel bright and early. The first stop of the day will be Kakum National Park, famous for its rainforest canopy walkway. Seven bridges suspended between emerging trees offer breathtaking views, showcasing the beauty of the tropical rainforest. Returning to the park headquarters, we learn about its diverse flora and fauna, home to various mammals and primate species, which includes forest elephants, leopards, and 6 primate species to mention just a few.
Following lunch, we delve into a profound experience: a traditional Naming Ceremony held in a local village. This event is a significant honor where you’ll receive your unique African name rooted in tradition and heritage, a deeply emotional and cherished ceremony. – Ridge Royal Hotel
Overnight in Cape Coast | Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Day 7: January 2, 2025 – Cooking and Batik Making Lesson at the Global Mamas Workshop – Following a relaxing breakfast, we’ll meet with our local chef to gather ingredients at the market, an opportunity for some lively bartering. The morning unfolds into a fun, hands-on cooking session where we’ll learn to prepare a local delicacy, and our chef will share insights on various Ghanaian dishes like Red red, Groundnut soup, fufu, banku, and jollof rice. After enjoying the lunch we’ve prepared, our day continues with a fascinating traditional batik making workshop hosted by Global Mamas.
This initiative empowers local women by teaching artistic skills and supporting their families through fair-trade sales. Engaging in this workshop alongside local artisans, we’ll learn the traditional techniques of batik making, creating our own garment to take home as a cherished memento of our time in Ghana.

Following a relaxing breakfast, we depart for Accra. En route, we stop at Elmina, home to the Castle of St. George, an ancient colonial fortress dating back to 1482. This UNESCO World Heritage site stands as a solemn reminder of the tragic transatlantic slave trade. Our visit includes an insightful tour of the castle and a stroll through the local fishing market. We witness the traditional boat-building methods in this historic fishing town, offering a glimpse into its unchanged heritage since the days of the slave trade. Upon return to Accra, we share an early evening meal together, a perfect time for farewells and reflections on our memorable journey.
